DAIRY FARM HAND

FARM HAND NEEDED FOR OUR GLEN HUON DAIRY FARM

Permanent casual/full-time position that pays according to the Pastoral Award and based on experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our small team on our progressive, forward-thinking dairy farm located on the banks of the Huon River in the picturesque Huon Valley, a 10 min drive from Huonville and 45 mins from Hobart.

Glen Huon Dairy is part of the renowned Bruny Island Cheese Company, producing the milk that is made into artisanal speciality cheeses. We are a small, spring calving, once-a-day herd that has been in operation since 2016. Although now not certified as Organic (by choice) we continue to farm using mostly Organic/bio dynamic farming principles. Since the start, our focus has been concentrated on prioritising animal welfare, milk quality and environmental sustainability. We also offer farm tours, educational workshops, and events.

We are looking to recruit a Farm Hand to report directly to the Farm Manager and to take responsibility for running the farm under manager's direction. The successful candidate will need to have at least 1 year dairy farm experience, ability to maintain very high standards of dairy hygiene, record keeping, a full driver’s licence and confidence to conduct farm tours.

Other responsibilities will include but not exclusive to; milk harvesting, calf rearing, feed allocation, tractor driving, weed control, irrigation, assisting in hay/silage making, fencing and general maintenance.
