We had a delightful chat with Dave Williamson who took up creating this gorgeous spurtles in retirement after a chef friend told him how difficult it had been to procure one.
Designed in the Highlands of Scotland way back in the 15th century, this unique kitchen tool was originally used to stir oatmeal, soup, stew, and broth and they still serves the same purpose today. Highly ergonomic, these are wonderful for stirring anything really! Perfect for those who enjoy whipping up the occasional bechamel sauce, or jus, or gravy. We even have the option of getting a left-handed spurtle (please request this in the comments when you finalise your order!!)
All spurtles are treated with a food-grade beeswax oil, you can handwash these after each use (just please don't put them in the dishwasher!) and treat them with olive oil and they will last for many, many years to come.
Pictured here is the Huon Pine spurtle on the left, and the Blackwood spurtle on the right.
This would make a wonderful unique gift for the gastronome in your life.
