I never really liked Pickled Walnuts before I came to live here. But since moving to Tassie I have fallen in love with them. I think I must have had them when I was a kid and remember them as just tasting like vinegar. Horrible. These are totally different - deeply spiced and wonderfully savoury, they make a great accompaniment to cheese. These walnuts are grown in the Coal Valley east of Hobart and are picked while the nut is still green, but before the hard shell has formed. Slice them thinly and serve with strongly flavoured cheeses for an interesting accompaniment.
