Our home is on Bruny Island, an island located off the south coast of Tasmania.  Bruny Island is truly a special place; an island, off an island, off an island, accessed by a ferry leaving from the idyllic town of Kettering.  Attracting thousands of visitors annually, Bruny Island offers visitors a coastal wilderness experience, stunning sightseeing and opportunities to meet some exceptional boutique producers such as BIC&BC.

Baker Full Time Position

Bruny Island Cheese Co & Beer Co (BIC&BC) is proud of its achievements, products and friendly work environment. BICC&BC is an artisan cheese and beer producer that is one of Tasmania’s iconic food tourism businesses.  We have built a strong reputation locally and internationally for the quality of our produce and considered an industry leader in Australia.

We are looking for a positive,  hard-working,  experienced baker (with administration skills) to take on the role of a full time Baker, on Bruny Island, (38 hours per week, over a 6-day rotating roster). The role requires using a Wood Fired Oven baking the following:  

Ø  Artisan hand-made bread, pizzas, slices, cakes, biscuits and condiments.

You will also be required to:

Ø  Implement bakery procedures

Ø  Order raw products

Ø  Produce baked goods to order for our cellar door, on-line cheese club, retail shop and special events throughout the year. 

Working closely with the cellar door and logistics managers, you will be joining a positive, hard-working team, so you will bring an energetic and positive attitude, excellent customer service skills, and a sense of pride in your work. This is a physical role, with early starts, and you will be on your feet all day so please consider this before applying.

Previous experience in hospitality, food handling/food production or factory work is preferred and experience with a Wood Fired Oven is essential.  You must have FULL WORKING RIGHTS to work in Australia for this position.

Bruny Island Cheese Company (BICC) is proud of its achievements, products and friendly work environment. BICC is an artisan cheese producer and is one of Tasmania’s iconic food tourism businesses.  We have built a strong reputation for the quality of our produce and considered an industry leader in Australia. While our Cheesery is based on Bruny Island, its production is serviced by fresh milk from our farm which is based in the beautiful Huon Valley in southern Tasmania.  Due to our continued growth and success (winning several awards for our excellent Milk/Cheese) we now need a new Permanent Dairy Assistant to work alongside and support our Farm manager/family in the Huon Valley.

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

Ø  Milking

Ø  Calving and calf rearing and feed allocation

Ø  Highest levels of animal husbandry and welfare

Ø  Pasture quality/crop management (irrigation/fertilising and pest control)

Ø  General farm maintenance (fences/buildings/dairy)

Ø  Maintaining organic certification

Ø  Maintaining strict Parlour and animal hygiene standards

Ø  Maintaining a safe farm workplace with a positive focus on environmental management  

Ø  You will be required to work autonomously every weekend to relieve the farm manager, doing split shifts to meet milking requirements.

Ø  Ability to maintain accurate farm/animal/calving records

Your skills and experience:

Ø  Prior experience working on a dairy farm (preferred) and ability to work independently as well as alongside farm manager

Ø  Qualifications in business, agriculture or a related field (preferred)

Ø  Demonstrated understanding/appreciation of principles/practical applications of animal care/husbandry/welfare and dairy farm operations

Ø  Drivers licence and ability to operate all farm machinery (essential)

Ø  Full working rights in Australia (no visa restrictions)
